Great writing, I felt I was there with you, but please be careful. You guys made some serious mistakes. Can't start a trek doing Thru-hiker miles. I shouldn't preach, but be careful.
Thanks for your concern - I've actually started every trail since my first thru-hike in 2017 doing mid-twenties to thirties, and I've never had an issue before. 26ish miles is pretty mid-range, even conservative for the terrain we were on, but I certainly should have trained more since I wasn't nearly as active as usual during lockdown. I'm quite aware of the snow travel mistakes we made, as I pointed out in the piece, and we have no plans to repeat them
I'm glad you are ok. Ben worried waiting for your next post. 11 days has been a long time. Thru hikers usually do not have to deal with the dangers you faced on that segment. Great to hear from you!
